Fireworks banned in OKC limits without permit

With Independence Day less than 24 hours away, city officials are reminding citizens that it is illegal to have fireworks in the Oklahoma City limits without a permit.

Oklahoma City ordinances make it illegal to purchase, possess, manufacture or use fireworks inside city limits without obtaining a permit first.

Sparklers, snakes and bottle rockets are included in the ban.

“People are surprised to learn their childhood favorite, sparklers and snakes, are not allowed in Oklahoma City,” said Chief Kellie Sawyers, Assistant Fire Marshal. “The fact is, they simply aren’t safe since they generate heat in excess of 1800 degrees. It’s best to leave the pyrotechnics to the experts and attend a public fireworks show.”

Violators can be fined up to $167 and the fireworks will be confiscated.

For more information, call the Fire Marshal's office at (405) 297-3584.
