Burglary ends with hacksaw chase, harpoon attack | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
OKLAHOMA CITY – An early morning break in leaves one man stabbed with a harpoon and another chased with a hacksaw. Oklahoma City Police are investigating the violent home invasion Wednesday.
The couple woke up after hearing a big bang around 6 a.m. at their house, near NW 11th and Roff.
It was their door being forced open.
"I didn't even have a chance to be scared," said victim Eddie West. "It was instant."
West says two armed men kicked in his door, claiming to be police officers.
They called each other Charlie and Echo.
West didn't have time to grab his gun.
"They met me at my door, grabbed me, pulled me out of my bedroom, put a gun to the back of my head and told me if I moved, they were going to shoot me," he said. "He pistol whipped me a couple of times. I got the gun away from him and he grabbed his rifle and started butting me in the face with his rifle."
The blood on her boyfriend's face was upsetting to Amanda Basnet, who swiped at one of the men with a hacksaw after using another desperate weapon.
"I just grabbed the first thing I saw, which was an alcohol bottle," she said. "I hit it on his head while he was wrestling my boyfriend."
West managed to fight back as well, and chased the men out of his house with an arrow used to kill alligator gar.
"Chased him all the way out to his car, stabbing in the back with that," West said.
However, he says they were wearing bullet proof vests and drove away while threatening West with another gun.
Neighbor Helen Jolly heard a commotion happening next door but had no idea what was happening.
"Well it's frightening. It's scary," she says.
Jolly has a home alarm system but says some criminals stop at nothing.
"Oh yeah, it could happen. That's close, and it's happening everywhere. It's just bad."
Police say home invasions usually happen when the crook knows the resident or knows what's inside.
But West says outside of taking cash from his pocket, he has no idea why he was attacked.
Anyone with information is urged to call Oklahoma City police.
