Authorities: Days to replace poles, fully restore power | News

EDMOND, Okla. — Authorities said it will take about three days to replace the wooden power poles with metals ones and fully restore power after storms ravaged parts of the Edmond area.

They said they will work to restore power to homes first.

Wednesday afternoon just over 1,000 residents were still without power.

Storms rolled through the metro Tuesday evening bringing some relief from the heat but also leaving behind damage.

At N.W.164th and MacArthur high winds brought down power poles.

One pole crashed into the roof of a home in the Still Meadows addition.

At N.W. 164th and Rockwell the thunderstorm did even more damage, snapping poles and breaking lines causing them to hang tangled.

Hundreds of homes were left without power.

A strip mall located near NW 50th and Portland felt the full force of the storm as high winds ripped an awning off the building and broke several windows.

Immediately following the storm about 22,000 OG&E customers were without power.

As of Wednesday morning, the lights were back on for most. Only 1,500 were still in the dark.
