Police chase almost derails home sale

WARR ACRES, Okla. – Police surrounded a home in Warr Acres Thursday in pursuit of a suspected burglar.

The suspect holed up in a home that had just sold; the closing was scheduled for 4 p.m. that same day.

Real estate agent Brent Boone said the buyers and sellers were on the way to the closing when news came someone was in their house.

Suburban poverty on the rise

According to a recent study, poverty has increased 64 percent across the United States over the last 12 years.

You might assume it’s referring to urban areas but this shocking statistic is talking about the suburbs.

When you’re driving through an upscale neighborhood in the Oklahoma City suburbs, life for those residents can seem so perfect, on the outside.

“It’s a dream home, it really is,” a suburban homeowner said, who did not want to be identified. “When you look around, you still pinch yourself and you go, ‘Wow, this is very cool.’”

That homeowner, who wanted to be called David for this interview, is now six months behind on the mortgage and his beautiful house is in foreclosure.

“Right now, our bank account is less than zero,” he said.

Confusion about new tax on real estate

OKLAHOMA CITY — There is a bogus email circulating right now, warning Oklahoma homeowners are about a “new sales tax on real estate.”

Realtors and CPAs around the Oklahoma City metro have been inundated with calls and emails from concerned Oklahomans.

Realtor Anne Wilson has fielded dozens of phone calls and texts and emails from scared home sellers.

“This is not true. What is true is there’s a very small population that will be affected. By and large it is not going to affect the people who are closing on homes,” Wilson said.

Here are several of the false claims in the email:

Edmond sets record for home sales

EDMOND, Okla. — Realtors around the metro, and especially in the Edmond area, are noticing a positive trend in their business.

According to realtor Brian Preston, who regularly compiles statistics about Edmond-area home sales, May was a record-breaking month for that community.

“We hit a six-year high for the number of sales in Edmond for the month of May. It beat our record year of 2007.” Preston said. “For March, April and May it’s the first time we’ve seen over 600 homes under contract in Edmond for the past six years.”

The Preston Report include home sales in parts of Deer Creek and North Oklahoma City.

Home sales in the Edmond area are up 25 percent from May 2011.
